The book provokes a lot of questions too....
What creates an abuser? How does one get that way? Not so much how CAN it happen," but "how DOES it happen?"
How does an adult person "rationalize" their own perpetual deliberate abuse? If they haven't themselves been abused-how does a person turn into an abuser? Does it stem from a person’s belief systems? "I'm a sinner, therefore i sin"? "God will forgive me so therefore i sin."
It seems it might even be helpful towards finding a cure to understand how an adult is "infected". How does an adult arrive at the place where healthy natural loving, nurturing, concern for a child’s life and future are no longer in place to restrain selfish raw bodily impulse? What is this obvious connection between Religion, Power and Sex? Does Religion actually tend to breed thoughtless selfish desire?
Is child abuse an actual sickness? Is a child abuser truly sick in the mind? Is there a cure? Or are they simply "evil" and need to be locked up forever?
I really don't know the answers to these, but obviously something is terribly wrong with a society or religious order when women and children are preyed upon BY society or its own religious order. So many broken and wounded . . .
