Robert Francis (White River Band Cherokee), consultant/helper for Mid American Indian Fellowships

Most American Indians are either, survivors of Christian or BIA boarding schools, or know someone who is. We have heard of the abuse: physical, sexual, mental, spiritual abuse, destruction and death – all in the name of God and Country. Surprisingly, or maybe not so surprisingly, the experiences of the children of evangelical Christian missionaries, educated in boarding schools in Africa and South America are not so different from those of American Indian children educated in Christian or BIA boarding schools.

Dee Ann Miller, http://www.takecourage.org, and Author of How Little We Knew (a book about collusion with mission field abuses)

Vivian Palmer Harvey is on a mission. She wants to keep people out of hell. A man-made hell, that is, created when parents bow to the mandates of mission agencies that seem to have little regard for the emotional well-being of both parents and children, especially when young children are required to leave home for long periods of time in order to attend boarding schools.

Richard Zane Smith, Artist, potter, Wyandotte language teacher

The Missionary Myth reveals a message out there in a world that likes to keep ugly reality tucked away nicely behind a prettier version. It's a sincere testimony of the author’s journey and also reveals concern for others who are still hurting, still suffering from various childhood traumas especially in cases where abuse hides and flourishes under the cloak of religion.

Some people would use this book strictly to lash out at those who abused her. Vivian has taken the high road. Sure, it's obvious the degree of pain she has suffered. But she hasn't written "The Missionary Myth" as an expose to hurt, but rather as a ray of light to bring healing.

Your book is a book that every person who has ever thought of or is thinking of going into mission work with the church should read. This is a book that sheds light on the reality of life behind the missions and how damaging it can be to the families of those involved. Excellent work my dear friend.

Flo C. Blake, White City, Reporter for the Upper Rogue Independent and instructor at Rogue Valley Community College
Author of The Sicilian Nobleman's Daughter

Vivian Harvey reveals the outrageous heartbreak and tortured childhood she and others endured at the hands of sadistic, "consecrated" mission-field school caregivers. "The Missionary Myth" is one book all sincere, guileless and trusting Christians--especially Christian parents--ought to read.
